I'm sorry for the late post.  I got sick yesterday, so I was resting today.

Tomorrow we will talk about hospitals and visiting the doctor.  What English phrases should you know if you need to go to a hospital in a different country?  How do you describe pain in English?  In Japan, do you visit the hospital often?

Hey, guys!

Thank you for last week's discussion.  It seems many people enjoy gardening and ocean views.

This week I want to discuss English advertising (宣伝) in Japan.  Many times, the English used in Japanese products (商品) has bad grammar and spelling, but people don't realize this!  Many people think English advertisements are correct, but they are not.  Because English is cool and fashionable (おしゃれ), people tend to buy these products.  But isn't this detrimental to (～に悪い、～に対して悪い) English study?

Please bring at least one product (toy, clothing, bag, book, food, etc.) that has English written on it.  We will look at the English on the items you bring, and discuss whether it is good English or bad English.

先週の話し合い、ありがとうございます。園芸や海の眺めなどが好きな人はたくさんいますね。

では、今週日本で英語での宣伝について話し合いましょう。普通、日本で生産された商品の英語は、ひどい文法やスペリングなどがありそうですが、だれも気が付かないと心配です。それに、英語での宣伝は正しいと思う人がたくさんいますが、実際は正しくありません。ただ、英語がかっこいいし、おしゃれなファションとして考えられているので、日本人はこんな商品を買いがちです。しかし、この傾向は英語の勉強に対して問題ではないでしょうか？

英語のある商品（おもちゃ、衣服、バッグ、本、食品など）を１つ以上授業に持ってきてください。持ってきた商品の英語が正しいかどうか、話をしたいと思います。

Hello, everyone!

I really enjoyed last week's discussion about the universe and astronomy.  I hope you thought it was interesting. :) It was fun to see how many of you believe in aliens!

This week we will be focusing on the Earth（地球）.  What seasons（季節） do you like?  What kinds of natural disasters (自然災害） have you experienced?  Have you ever been to a desert (砂漠）?

Because the cherry blossoms (桜）are beginning to bloom（咲く）, I'd like to talk a little bit about flowers, cherry blossom-viewing (花見), and gardening （園芸）as well. :)

Topic for This Week ４月２３日のトピック

Hello, everyone!

Since we talked about Easter last week, this week we will dye Easter eggs together!  I have booked the cooking room at Seishounen Home (same time!).  So let's meet in the first-floor cooking room at 7:00 P.M. :)

I will bring the dye (colors) and some eggs, but please bring more if you want to make many Easter eggs!  Also, please bring Tupperware or a box to take your eggs home.

Making Easter eggs is very easy.  First, we will hard boil the eggs.  Then, we will prepare cups of different colored dyes.  Finally, we will use spoons and our hands to put the eggs in the cups.  It's really fun, and you can eat the eggs later for lunch or dinner the next day. :)

みなさん、こんにちは！

先週はイースターの話をしたので、今週は一緒にイースターエッグを染めましょう！青少年ホームの調理実習室を予約しました（同じ時間ですよ！）。だから水曜日は１９時に一階の調理実習室で会いましょう。:)

私は染めるための色と卵を持っていきますが、だれかたくさんのイースターエッグを作りたい方がいらっしゃるなら自分で卵をぜひ持ってきてください！また、イースターエッグを持って帰るためにタッパーウェアや箱を持ってきてください。

イースターエッグ作りはとても簡単です。まずは、卵を沸騰します（ゆで卵）。次は、染めるための色の入っているカップを準備しておきます。あとは、スプーンと手を使ってゆで卵をカップに入れます。すごく楽しいし、イースターエッグは昼食や夕食には食べてもいいですよ！

Hello, everyone!

Wow, spring is finally here! :) The weather is beautiful today, isn't it?  I think I will try to run outside soon!

For this week, our topic will be Easter!  How do you celebrate Easter in Japan?  In America?  In New Zealand?  Do you dye eggs?  What are Easter colors?  Please think about these questions.

If possible, I would like to dye Easter eggs together!  Maybe we can use the Seishounen kitchen later this week?  Could somebody help me talk to the Seishounen staff?  Thank you! :)

Hello, everyone!

How was your spring break? :)

This week we will talk about music and culture.  Do you listen to music in other languages?  What do you think about Western (English) music?  How is traditional European music different from traditional Japanese music?  Is it important to translate lyrics (歌詞) for foreigners?  Please think about these questions.

Also, please bring a copy of your favorite song.  Anything is fine!  If the song is in Japanese, explain what the song is about.  If the song is in English, explain why you chose a Western song!  I will use my iPhone during class, so we can listen to the songs we bring.

では、今週のトピックは音楽と文化となります。あなたは外国の音楽を聞くのが好きですか？西洋音楽（英語の音楽）はどう思いますか？ヨーロッパの伝統的な音楽と、日本の伝統的の音楽とはどう違いますか？外国人のために歌詞を訳すのは重要ではないでしょうか？こんな質問をよく考えてください。

なお、自分のお気に入りの歌の歌詞を持ってきてください。なんでもＯＫ！日本の歌なら歌の内容を英語で説明してもらい、英語の歌ならその歌はなぜ選んだかや、どういうところが好きなのかなどを、説明してもらいます。授業中みんなが持ってきた歌が聞けるようにiPhoneを使おうと思います。
