Hi there!

It's finally summer!  The weather is nice and warm.

This week I'd like to talk about language education.  What do you think about English language education in Japan?  How can we improve it?  What is more important: grammar and reading, or speaking and communication?

In America students can study many languages, particularly Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, etc.  However, many students do not start learning a language until high school.  As a result, they never become fluent in another language.  How can we change this?  What are your ideas?

では、今週外国語教育についての話をしたいと思います。日本の英語教育はどう思いますか？どのように教育を上達ができますか？文法・読解と、話すこと・コミュニケーションと、どちらの方が重要でしょうか？

アメリカで生徒はたくさんの外国語を学ぶことができます。例えば、スペイン語をはじめ、フランス語、ドイツ語、日本語や中国語が特に人気です。しかし、高校生になるまで外国語を勉強しないという傾向があります。結果として、その生徒が外国語にペラペラにならないということです。この問題はどうやって直すことができますか？何かアイディアはありますか？

Recently the weather has been rainy and cloudy.  I hope it turns sunny soon!

For tomorrow, I'd like to talk about college and graduate school.  Did you go to college/graduate school?  What did you study?  What are the requirements in order to graduate?  In America, college is very expensive, and many people must take out loans from the government.  What do you think about college tuition?  Should it be lower/higher?

Hey, everyone!

I hope you enjoyed last week's talk about gourmet foods and delicacies. :)

This week we will talk about dance.  Do you enjoy dancing?  Do you watch dancing on TV?  What kinds of dance are there in Japan and the West?

By the way, I went to the Yosakoi Soran Festival this weekend in Sapporo.  Yosakoi is very interesting to me because it seems to be a mix of traditional Japanese dance and modern dance.  What do you think?

ちなみに、私は週末に札幌でのYOSAKOIソーラン祭りに行ってきました。YOSAKOIはとても面白いと思います。昔の伝統的な踊りと現在のスタイルを混ぜるという踊りらしいですから。みなさん、どう思いますか？

Hey, guys!

I really enjoyed last week's discussion about desserts.  I was surprised we were able to think of so many!

This week we will be talking about gourmet food, delicacies, and strange foods.  What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?  How was the price?  What kinds of delicacies do different countries have?  What do you think about eating animals such as cats, dogs, horses, dolphins, whales, etc.?

We will also talk about vegetarianism.  Do you know anyone who identifies as a vegetarian?  Why is vegetarianism so rare in Japan yet so common in the West?  Please think about these questions.

I'd like you to explain to the class one strange food you have eaten.  What was the taste?  Did you enjoy it?  Would you eat it again in the future?

先週の話し合いは楽しかったですね。たくさんのデザートを考えることができてびっくりしました！

では、今週はグルメ、珍味、変な食事などについて話したいと思います。一番変な食べたことがある食べ物は何ですか？値段はいかがでしたか？外国はどういう珍味があるそうですか？猫、犬、馬、イルカ、鯨などを食べるのは、どう思いますか？

さらに、ベジタリアン（菜食主義）についても話しましょう。ベジタリアンとして生活している方をご存じですか？日本でなぜ菜食主義が珍しいでしょうか？西洋でなぜ珍しくないでしょうか？こういう質問をよく考えてください。

そして食べたことがある変な食べ物の１つを紹介してほしいです。味は何でしたか？美味しかったですか？もう一度食べたいですか？
