Hey, everyone!

Are you enjoying the warm weather?  I hope winter ends and spring comes soon. :) Tomorrow we will be discussing a big topic: religion.  Western countries tend to have Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, but Asian countries tend to have Buddhism and Hinduism.  Although many Americans are Christian, the number of young people who do not have an interest in religion seems to be increasing.  In addition, in America and Japan, many people celebrate Christmas without respecting the Christian traditions and history behind it.  What do you think about this trend?  What is your religion?  What do you believe?

Please think about these questions.  I hope we will have an interesting discussion. :)

暖かい天気を楽しんでいますか？もうすぐ冬が終わって春が始まるといいですね。:) では、明日は「宗教」という大きな話題を中心としたお話をしたいと思います。西洋国はキリスト教、ユダヤ教とイスラム教、アジア国は仏教と印度教がありがちです。多くのアメリカ人はキリスチャンなのですが、宗教に興味はない青少年が増えているらしいです。なお、アメリカにも日本にもキリスト教の伝統と歴史を尊敬しないでクリスマスを祝う人々がいっぱいいます。この傾向はどう思いますか？あなたの宗教は何ですか？何を信じていますか？

こういう質問をよく考えてください。面白い話し合いができるといいですね。:)

Hello!

I noticed it was snowing today, and I feel it might get cold again, so please continue to be careful on the roads.

For tomorrow, I would like to have a discussion about health.  Before I came to Japan for the first time, I heard things such as, "Japanese food is really healthy," "Japanese people are really thin," and "There's no obesity in Japan."  On the other hand, when it comes to Americans, usually the first thing people think of is fat people.  Are these types of images really true?  What do you think?  For the people that have traveled to America before, did your image of American people change when you returned to Japan?

I believe health is connected to many things.  Besides sports, exercise, and diet, are there any other things health is connected to?  Is your health good or bad?  Please think deeply about these questions for class tomorrow.

今日雪が降っていることに気づいてまた寒くなるかもしれないような気がしますので、道路はまだ気をつけてくださいね。

では、明日は健康についてのお話をしたいと思います。日本に初めて来るまえ、和食が結構健康的、日本人がみんな痩せているのと肥満は全然ない、ということが言われていました。一方、アメリカ人にかけては、太っている人というイメージがすぐ思い浮かぶと感じてしまいます。こういうイメージは真実ではないでしょうか？あなたはどう思いますか？アメリカに旅行したことがある方にとって日本に戻ったときアメリカ人のイメージが変わりましたか？

健康って色々なこととつながっていると信じます。スポーツ、体操、ダイエット以外は健康とつながっていることがほかにありますか？あなたの健康は良いか、良くないですか？こういう質問をよく考えてください。

Hello!

I hope you all had a fun weekend!  Did you go to the Snow Festival in Sapporo?  The ice sculptures were very beautiful. :) Anyway, because Valentine's Day is this Friday, tomorrow we will be talking about Valentine's Day, romance, and love!  What do you think about love?  Do you like romantic movies, books, etc.?  How is Valentine's Day in Japan different from Valentine's Day in America?  Please think about these questions.

Howdy!

Last week I forgot to review the pronunciation of the previous week's vocabulary, so please try to bring your Lesson 14 (Astrology) vocabulary sheets!  After we review that, I'd like to start a discussion about animals!  What is your favorite animal?  Do you have any pets?  What wild animals live in Japan, America, New Zealand, and England?  Do you enjoy going to zoos and aquariums?  Please think about these questions for tomorrow. :)

Hello, everyone!

I hope you enjoyed your long winter break! :) Urakawa has become very cold and snowy now, so be careful when driving.

Tomorrow is our first class of 2014, so I'd like us to talk about New Year's resolutions.  "New Year's resolutions" are goals or hopes you have for the new year.  In America, we sometimes write lists of our goals.  Goals can be anything!  For example, you could write: "Exercise more," "Eat more vegetables," "Travel to a different country," "Try a new hobby," etc.  We will do a New Year's resolution activity and hopefully have an interesting discussion. :)

長い冬休みが楽しめましたか？:) 最近浦河は雪に覆われて結構寒くなってきたので、運転は気をつけてください。

では、明日は2014年初めての英会話なので、New Year's resolutions (新年の抱負) について話してもらいたいと思います。"New Year's resolutions"というのは、新年に希望または遂げたいことです。アメリカでは、私たちが抱負のあるリストを書きがちです。何でもいいです！例えば、「もっと運動したい」、「もっと野菜を食べたい」、「外国へ旅行したい」とか「新しい趣味を始めたい」など書いてもいいです。新年の抱負に関するアクティビティをやってもらい、面白い話し合いができるといいですね。:)
