6/10 Topic: Describing and Explaining

Good afternoon, everyone!

How are you today?  This week's topic is about how to describe and explain things in English.  How do you describe what you see in English?  Usually people use adjectives and adverbs.  They also use phrases such as "It has ~ " or "There are ~ ."

We will practice these expressions and play games.  For example, can you describe the differences in two similar pictures?  Or can you explain a specific word without saying it?

6/3 Topic: How to Use "Get"

Hello, everyone!

This week's topic is about how to use the word "get" in casual conversation.  Have you heard the word "get" before?  It has many meanings.  When you think of "get," you probably think of "obtain." But "get" doesn't just have this meaning; it also means "become," "arrive," and "receive."  It's a very important word, so please try to use "get" in conversation as much as possible!

This week's topic is emotive expressions--i.e., how to express your emotions in English.  How do you describe your feelings of anger?  Joy?  Confusion?  In English there are many ways to say your feelings.  There are many different prepositions, so please be careful when you use these expressions!

4/22 Topic: Accents

Hello!

I hope you enjoyed last week's class about magic and card tricks.  Have you been practicing what you learned?

For this week's class, we will be talking about accents in the English language.  There are many accents and dialects in English.  The U.S., the U.K., New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, and India all have different accents.  In Japan, students learn the standard American accent, but there are many accents across the world.  Let's listen to them and think about how they are different!

Announcement: Next week is the start of Golden Week holidays, so there will be no class on 4/29 and 5/6.  The next class after 4/22 will be on 5/13.  I appreciate your cooperation.

今週の授業には、英語のアクセントや方言に取り組みます。英語では色々なアクセントがあります。アメリカとイギリスを始め、ニュージーランド、オーストラリア、カナダ、アイルランド、南アフリカ、インドなど、英語の発音や表現は国により異なっています。日本の生徒が標準的なアメリカのアクセントを学んでいますが、世界中に多くのアクセントがあります。これらのアクセントをよく聞いて、何が違うかを考えてみましょう！
